Mrs. Oldham's class learned about their five senses. Students tasted salty, sour and sweet things. They each made a Five Senses Book. In the Mathematics domain the children learned about shapes; a circle is like a ball, a triangle has three sides, a square is like a box and a rectangle has two short and two long sides. There were masking tape shapes all over the floor for the children to jump in and out of. The students went on a shape hunt, where they scoured the school looking for shapes and then drew them as they were found! The Pre-K children finished up their alphabet knowledge with lower case letter recognition and they are now writing their names in lower case letters! In the Social Studies domain, the students learned about families and read The Family Book, The Seven Silly Eaters, All Families are Special and Who's in My Family. Dramatic Play turned into a kitchen and children role played kitchen activities. The block area and the art center had many activities surrounding the topic of families. For the family engagement activity, the children brought in a crest and banner which they made at home. Children continue to do a great job with letter sounds, and thus far have learned C/O/G/A/S/D/L/I/T/F/E/H/U. Last week Little Scholars Preschool had a visit from ‘Animal Experiences’. The students had an amazing adventure getting hands-on with over 15 animals including: turtles, snakes, lizards, amphibians, an alligator and some small mammals! The children were taught the importance of respecting animals and how to handle them in the proper way. A great time was had by all!
