December was filled with many holiday activities! Most of the learning revolved around a holiday theme and included elf games and Christmas activities in the math, literacy, language arts and mathematics domains. To help the children recognize numbers Mrs. Peterson’s students brought home a Santa advent calendar. The science curriculum included making gingerbread Play-Doh and gingerbread cloud dough that they were able to use for sensory activities.
Mrs. Gowans' preschool class worked on letters Ff and Gg. They had a holiday bake shop set up in their classroom. The children had the opportunity to use math, science, literacy, fine motor and social emotional skills during this activity. A favorite event was the daily visits from their scout elf, Jingle Sparkle McSprinkles. The children learned valuable lessons from the elf such as problem solving and being kind to others.
Mrs. Oldham's class had a Santa's workshop in their room! They practiced their fine motor skills by wrapping presents and making ornaments. The science curriculum included making peppermint Play-Doh. The children continue practicing their names and letter recognition. They also continued learning letters - C, O and G – were added to the alphabet museum. The children brought in great examples of the letters for show and tell.
Lastly, Santa made the children smile when he made a special visit to Little Scholars!
