Mrs. Oldham's class focused on a variety of activities this month to enhance their skills in the Physical Health and Motor Development domain. They worked on their fine motor skills by drawing a circle, cutting with scissors and holding a crayon. For gross motor skills they played "throw and catch" with a playground ball. In the Mathematics domain, the children worked on their understanding of number recognition and the quantities they represent by counting chicks and bunnies. They also matched numbers 1-5 inside of Easter eggs. They sorted pom-poms, teddy bears and boxes by big, medium and small sizes. They also learned math readiness vocabulary: long-short, near-far, big-small, and high-low. Mrs. Oldham read Short Train, Long Train to the children. While learning about the five senses the children drew and made a life size Mat Man.
Mrs. Gowans' class had a fun month with lots of Easter activities. They matched upper and lower case letters on plastic eggs for the Literacy domain. In the Mathematics domain, the children enjoyed counting, sorting and graphing jellybeans. In Creative Arts they were able to dye and paint real eggs with shaving cream. In the Science domain they experimented with shaving cream for clouds and blue water and eye droppers for rain. The letters /O/P/, numbers 4 and 5, the color purple and the shape "oval" were featured for the month.
Mrs. Peterson's class focused on the Language Development domain and learned rhyming words by playing ‘Rhyming Bingo’ and ‘Movin & Groovin’. Each day, the "Question of the Day" started with "Do you know a word that rhymes with ________?" The children are working hard in the Literacy domain on lower case recognition and some children are writing their names in lower case letters. The arrival of our Monarch Butterflies came April 26th as part of our Knowledge of Science Concepts. The children will journal the Life Cycle of a Butterfly as well as make a life cycle model. Mrs. Peterson is very proud of the letter sounds the children have learned and their ability to put the sounds together to make words!! The letters and corresponding sounds they have learned so far are /C/O/G/A/S/D/L/I/T/F/E/H/U/B/R/.
