A few highlights from January included a lesson about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The 3 classes combined to read the book, It’s Okay to be Different. An activity that followed was a discussion about differences. We discussed hair color, eye color, skin color and gender while explaining how Dr. King wanted all people to be treated fairly. A second activity involved learning the song, “I’ve Got Piece in My Fingers” by Susan Salidor and then making a corresponding craft.
The children had learning opportunities with ice and snow. For example, in Creative Arts the children painted with ice cubes and in Science they learned how water freezes and melts. In Literacy, they got to match uppercase/lowercase snowflakes. Snow and ice was used for sensory experiences.
