March was highlighted by Dr. Seuss’s birthday, St. Patrick’s Day and a special petting zoo experience provided by Animal Experiences.
Little Scholars celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday the whole week by having a different theme each day. One of the favorite theme days was “Crazy Sock Day. “ Of course, many classic Dr. Seuss stories were read and enjoyed all week long!
Many activities accompanied the anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day. The children enjoyed playing, "Roll a Shamrock", which is a number recognition game using dice and green jewels as markers. They enjoyed reading the book, Leprechaun on the Loose. Most of all, the children enjoyed building leprechaun traps! In the building center, the children created leprechaun traps with blocks, shamrocks and gold. They also did a family project where a leprechaun trap was built at home and brought into school for show and tell. What creative ideas we saw!
Later in the month, Little Scholars was paid a visit by Animal Experiences. Animal Experiences arrived to Little Scholars with a variety of animals including: turtles, snakes, a tree frog, a hedgehog, a chinchilla and Wally the alligator. This fun and educational day allowed the students to learn the importance of respecting animal life and concluded with the children having the opportunity to hold and pet the animals. Many children overcame their fear of reptiles and discovered a newfound appreciation for them!
